This creative catalog photography shoot was from a few year’s back at my last studio. The client sold Arts and Crafts / DIY projects. You bought the handbag and they gave things to decorate and personalize it with. How do you show that creatively? Art director Shea Baker came up with a idea – different women, different personalities, different dresses, different handbags; and since it was spring – add some fresh green grass to tie it all together. This was shot in my Plymouth Ma. studio. You can’t always shoot outside. In the studio you have total control, with lighting your models and product. We got real grass/sod from a local college stadium that was putting in a new field that year. Put down sheets of plastic, then the grass. The women were photographed separately, and the final shot was stitched together in Photoshop. Catalog photography is a challenge – showcasing the product in a way that makes the viewer stop, look, and hopefully buy. The models were great and had a great time, and the client was happy. They used this in a print catalog and in their online store. A great idea from Shea. Another fun and creative catalog photography shoot.
